A Little Bit Crunchy, Even When I’m Not

Welcome! I’ve been hearing so many parents lately discussing how they relate to crunchy parenting but don’t mesh with some of the more extreme stances. I feel exactly the same way! There are a few different terms I’ve seen going around, “scrunchy” “crispy” “crunchy-ish” but it’s basically just those of us who are crunchy, but….not completely.

We all have our little idiosyncrasies that make us different from other parents, even if you fit somewhere on the Crunchy Spectrum (coining the term now). I wanted to create a community for those parents who might be a little eco-conscious, evidence-based, homeopathic, trauma-informed, or whatever!

It’s difficult to move from a traditional Western lifestyle to one that is more authentic and true to our nature. Technology has changed our society so quickly over the last century that it’s hard for people in younger generations to fathom what life used to be like. Plastic didn’t even exist a century ago, and now it seems impossible to live without it. But each day, we can take small steps to start increasing our self-sufficiency and sustainability. We can research and do better once we know better. We can continue to grow every day, and our children will watch us and learn to do the same. It’s starts with simple swaps. Then you continue to build until you have the lifestyle you want. It might take a few years to get there. It might take a decade. However long it takes, it will be worth it. And the time will pass anyway!

Whether you are a new parent just learning how to do this parenting thing sustainably, or a veteran parent who wants to change their family’s lifestyle to improve their health…it’s all possible and very worthwhile. I welcome all levels of crispy-crunchiness here! I’m so excited to find other parents who want to take raising their children to a higher level of authenticity and connection.

In what ways do you consider yourself to be “crunchy”? What ways do you consider yourself not totally 100% crunchy?
